2-Factor Authentication (2FA) Recovery

Lost access to your authenticator app or phone? Don’t worry, as there are ways to regain access to your Notehouse account.

In most cases, your organization’s administrator can reset your 2FA so you can sign in again. If you’re the Account Owner or can’t reach an admin, support can help.

Lost Authenticator App

If you no longer have access to your authenticator app (for example, you deleted it or switched phones), you’ll need to re-enroll as codes are device-specific.

Authenticator codes are device-specific and don’t transfer automatically. Contact your organization’s administrator to reset your 2FA enrollment so you can set it up again on your new device.

If you also have SMS enabled as a backup method, you can log in using SMS and then re-enroll your authenticator app from your security settings.

Lost Phone for SMS

If you can’t receive SMS codes because your phone is lost or your number has changed, you won’t be able to complete login using SMS.

If you also have an authenticator app enrolled, use that method to log in and update your SMS settings afterward. If not, contact your administrator so they can reset your 2FA enrollment and help you re-enroll with a new phone number.

Getting Help

If you’re unable to recover access on your own, your organization’s administrator is the fastest path back in. They can reset your 2FA enrollment after verifying your identity.

If you’re the Account Owner or your administrator is unavailable, contact Notehouse support and include your account email and organization name. Additional identity verification may be required.

Preventing Future Issues

To avoid getting locked out again, consider enrolling both an authenticator app and SMS. Having multiple methods gives you a backup if one device becomes unavailable. If your authenticator app supports backups or syncing, enable those options when possible.
