Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Notehouse account. In addition to your password, you’ll verify your identity with a second step, helping protect your account even if your password is compromised.

This guide explains what 2FA is, how to set it up using an authenticator app or SMS, and what to expect if your organization requires it.

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

2FA requires a second verification step when logging in. This ensures that only you can access your account, even if someone else knows your password.

Available Methods

Notehouse supports two verification options:

  • Authenticator app: Time-based codes generated by an app like Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, etc. (recommended for stronger security)
  • SMS verification: One-time codes sent to your phone by text message

You can enroll in one or both methods.

Setting Up Authenticator App

Before you begin, install an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password.

To enroll:

  1. Go to Account Settings
  2. Open the Security tab
  3. Click Enroll under the authenticator app option
  4. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app
  5. Enter the 6-digit code from the app
  6. Click Verify

Once complete, the method will show as enrolled.

Setting Up SMS Verification

To enroll SMS authentication:

  1. Go to Account Settings
  2. Open the Security tab
  3. Click Enroll under SMS verification
  4. Enter your phone number (including country code)
  5. Enter the 6-digit code sent by text
  6. Click Verify

Phone numbers must be entered in international format (for example, +1 for the US or +44 for the UK).

Required vs Optional 2FA

  • Optional: If your organization does not require 2FA, you may enable it at any time for added security.
  • Required: If your organization enforces 2FA, you’ll be prompted to enroll during login and must complete setup before accessing Notehouse.

If you have questions about requirements, contact your organization’s administrator.
